What to do when you get scammed online

Digital products for consumers at OCU: the cybersecurity hub and the Spanish side of the group's products.

The problem

OCU, a Spanish consumer organisation, started out as a magazine subscription.

The challenge now is different: to be there when consumers have a problem, not only when they read.

That means moving from content to digital products and services. And there is one moment where it becomes obvious: when someone has just been scammed online. At that point, a magazine is too late. You need something you can use straight away.

According to OCU, enquiries about cyber fraud grew by 45% in 2025.

What I did

My work has two parts.

The first is the cybersecurity hub. I run that one.

It starts from opportunities validated through consumer research.

The model is pay-per-use, with an AI layer.

The second part covers two Euroconsumers group products: GUIO and CPP. There I handle the local side, in Spain. The group leads the product.

On both, I do discovery and gather the requirements of the Spanish market. I give ongoing feedback to the development team and look after training and QA.

I also take care of what needs doing in Spain: the integration with Salesforce processes and local marketing.

When something needs validating fast, I build MVPs with my own stack.

How it works

  • Inform, train and protect: the hub is organised in three steps. You find out which scams are going around, you learn to spot them and, if it has already happened to you, you make a claim.

  • Simulator and test: a phishing and smishing simulator (email and SMS) based on real cases, so you can practise before a real one reaches you. The test takes 2 minutes and tells you whether you can make a claim.

  • Claims after digital fraud: a service to get your money back. It comes with webinars and a claim guide for each bank.

  • Group products: GUIO, OCU's AI assistant, available across the website. And CPP, a mobile app in development to reach a younger audience, with AI to make claims and manage contracts from your phone.

Outcome

What I take away: in a large group, knowing where you add value matters more than wanting to run everything.

On GUIO and CPP, I focus on the Spanish market. What is needed in Spain, how it fits with Salesforce, who needs training and what needs testing before it reaches people.

The hub is public and you can use it today at ocu.org/ciberseguridad (in Spanish). Take the test or try the simulator.
